A narrow steel column for the logs and a ring on top for kindling: the Bauhaus geometry that reviewers describe as “graceful” and “a work of art”. Fifty owners have reviewed it. Hand-welded in the Atelier Article workshop in Cherkasy, Ukraine; black or white powder coat, or clear coat over raw steel.

What it holds

“About 5 fires' worth of logs at a time”, “quite a lot of wood”, plus the kindling and fire starters in the ring. The footprint is small — 10.6 × 14.2 in — which is why owners put it right inside the back door or in the gap beside the fireplace. One owner had the workshop shorten it by ¾ in to fit under a mantel; another had it made in gold.

The column is 14.2 in (36 cm) deep and the logs rest through it front to back, so standard 16-inch US firewood sits with a little showing on each side — as in the photos. The flat base plate keeps bark and small pieces off the floor.

The frame is 10 × 10 mm (⅜ in) square steel tube, hand-welded. It is slimmer than most hearth furniture and lighter than it looks — reviewers say “lighter than expected” and “sturdy” in the same sentence — so it moves easily for cleaning and does not overpower a small room.

Feet and floors

Four legs with plastic pads, so the steel does not sit directly on wood or tile. On an uneven stone hearth, a felt pad under one leg levels it.

Indoor or outdoor?

Made for indoor use next to a fireplace or wood stove. Several owners keep one on a covered porch or patio; if you do, spray the frame with a wax protectant once a season so the powder coat lasts.

Hooks and poker

Add one or two hooks, a steel poker, or hooks and poker together — the hooks fix to the column so the tools hang beside the wood. One owner's regret: “I wish I would have ordered the poker and hook.”
